Our production takes place in three small factories in Estonia, where we've nurtured relationships with skilled experts over the past decade. In our main leather workshop, a father-son duo exemplifies the depth of craft knowledge we value.
How It's Made
Materials We Use
Leather is the cornerstone of many Craftory pieces, and we’re picky about it. We only use full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather, a byproduct from farm-raised European cattle, sourced from Sweden and Italy.
Vegetable-Tanned Leather
We primarily use full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather from historic tanneries - Tärnsjö Garveri in Sweden and Conceria Valpieri in Italy. Their Leather Working Group-certified leather meets the highest environmental and quality standards. Vegetable-tanned leather develops a rich patina over time, becoming a visual record of your experiences. Each scratch, scuff, and mark tells a story, making your item truly unique to you.
Synthetic Finish Veg-Tan Leather
For select collections, particularly those featuring lighter shades like our Cookie Collection, we apply a synthetic finish to the vegetable-tanned leather. This isn't an alternative tanning method, but rather a supplementary process that helps to preserve the vibrancy of lighter hues even in challenging climates while offering improved resistance to stains and general use.
Wool
Our Wool Collection goods showcase the natural beauty and warmth of merino and lamb fibers. This material isn't just cozy - it is naturally moisture-wicking, temperature-regulating, and odor-resistant. Perfect for those items that need to keep up with you through changing conditions.
CORDURA®
For unparalleled durability, we turn to European-made CORDURA® for our Resistant Collection. This high-performance fabric, woven from high-tenacity nylon yarns, stands ready for life's adventures. Tear-resistant, puncture-proof, and abrasion-defying.
Hardware
The small elements often carry the greatest significance. Our hardware, sourced from Italy, is crafted from solid brass and finished in either brass or gun-metal, developing a unique patina over time. This isn't just about looks - brass offers longevity that cheaper materials can't match. For zippers, we exclusively use YKK, acknowledging their long-standing commitment to quality. Since 1934, they've been refining the art of closure, a dedication that aligns with our own pursuit of perfection in the details.
